The Twins Learn of their Disorder. New March 2019 release in the Strawberry and Cracker, Twins with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, series. http://www.challengedhope.com

Talking to a child with a fetal alcohol-related diagnosis about their disorder is difficult. I raised grandchildren with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. As each one was diagnosed, discussing the disorder and its associated problems never got easier. My reason for holding back was partly due to the stigma attached to the diagnosis, and partly due to my reluctance to label each child. Conversely, having the diagnosis led to supports and services vital to their well-being.

The Twins Learn Of Their Disorder is designed to help open a discussion around the diagnosis. When I discussed FASD with my grandchildren, they were unable to absorb its seriousness, would become afraid, and voice weird imaginings, and giggle to hide their fear. To bring a whimsical touch to talking about FASD, I incorporated those reactions into the story so your child won’t feel alone in their fears.

To avoid overwhelming your child, in the book, I have covered the basics of FASD only. Future discussions are yours, but it’s my hope this book will make initial dialogue easier.

The Twins Learn of Their Disorder book blurb

The Twins Learn of Their Disorder is one in the Strawberry & Cracker, Twins with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome series.  In the story, the twins’ recent medical evaluation resulted in a diagnosis of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. Now, they are at their pediatrician’s office to learn of their disorder. When the doctor informs them of the diagnosis, the twins imagine whimsical and whacky problems associated with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome; however, the doctor helps them avoid panic through a positive and constructive discussion in her office. The Twins Learn of Their Disorder is a helpful teaching tool during discussion with a child about Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.

Hamilton ON ODSP Office/Changes

A Welcome Change to Hamilton ON ODSP Services!

Hamilton ON ODSP leaflet

I’m not conceited enough to believe that my post HERE had anything to do with the changes at the Hamilton ON ODSP office, but it is good to know that enough people complained about the service thereby causing changes to be implemented.

Hamilton ON ODSP Office/Changes

As you can see from a recent leaflet, ODSP is striving to improve their service. Always a good sign. Readers, don’t sit back on your laurels, however, or the service will slip again. Keep ODSP on its toes by continually voicing your complaints whenever they arise. The leaflet suggests you speak to a member of the management team if you are dissatisfied with the service.
